BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) is the number of calories your body burns at rest. It's influenced by factors like age, sex, height, and weight.

For Males:


BMR = 88.362 + (13.397 × weight in kg) + (4.799 × height in cm) - (5.677 × age in years)

​

For Females:

BMR = 447.593 + (9.247 × weight in kg) + (3.098 × height in cm) - (4.330 × age in years)

How Are Your Calories Calculated?

Our calculator uses the Mifflin St. Jeor formula, a trusted method for determining calorie needs, as recognized by nutritionists and dietitians. Here's how it works:

Determine Your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) – the calories your body burns at rest.​​

​

  • For women: 655 + (4.35 x weight in lbs) + (4.7 x height in inches) – (4.7 x age in years)

  • For men: 66 + (6.23 x weight in lbs) + (12.7 x height in inches) – (6.8 x age in years)

​

Adjust for Activity Level – multiply your BMR by a factor based on your activity:​

​

  • Lightly active: 1.375

  • Moderately active: 1.55

  • Very active: 1.725

  • Extra active: 1.9

  • Sedentary: 1.2

Customize for Your Goal:

  • For weight loss: Reduce the total calories by 10–20%.

  • For weight gain: Add 500 calories.
